Directors Matthew Robinson and Christopher Pruett announced upcoming show titles for the 2013-14 season – The Uninvited and Guys and Dolls – at the Sept. 5 theatre meeting.
The 2013-14 season opens with Our Town at 7 pm Sept. 20, 21 and 23. Our Town is a 1938 three-act play by American playwright Thornton Wilder. Set in the fictional American small town of Grover’s Corners, it tells the story of an average town’s citizens in the early 20th century as depicted through their everyday lives over a 12-year period. The play is performed without use of a set or props.
Our second play of the season, The Uninvited is a thriller by Tim Kelly based on the novel by Dorothy Macardle. Seeking to escape the demands of London life, Pam Fitzgerald and her brother Roddy, an aspiring playwright, discover a charming house in the west of England, overlooking the sea. The house, Cliff End, has long been empty. The reason is soon apparent: Fifteen years earlier a murder may or may not have occurred there. Slowly the Fitzgeralds begin to sense the evil spirit that still inhabits the house. As the mystery unfolds, Cliff End is forced to reveal its dark secrets. Show dates for The Uninvited are 7 pm Oct. 30 and Nov. 1 & 2.
The Klein Oak Fine Arts Department 2014 musical is Guys and Dolls. Guys and Dolls is a musical comedy with music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows. It’s based on “The Idyll of Miss Sarah Brown” and “Blood Pressure” – two short stories by Damon Runyon. Guys and Dolls premiered on Broadway in 1950, ran for 1200 performances and won the Tony Award for Best Musical. The musical has had several Broadway and London revivals, as well as a 1955 film adaptation starring Marlon Brando, Jean Simmons, Frank Sinatra and Vivian Blaine. Show dates for Guys and Dolls are 7 pm Jan. 31, and Feb. 1, 7, 8 & 10, 2014. Auditions for Klein Oak students are the week of Nov. 18-22.
